Saludos

San Diego is among the stops in March on the fourth leg of Boeing’s “787 Dream Tour” — a global jaunt to show off its next-generation commercial aircraft, the 787 Dreamliner.
Designed fresh from front to back, the 787 holds up to 250 passengers and has a flight range of up to 8,200 nautical miles, according to Boeing.
Lighter, more efficient engines, extensive use of composite materials and reconceived aerodynamics have resulted in fuel consumption that is 20 percent lower than previous-generation jets, and it also boasts lower carbon dioxide emissions.
Passengers can expect larger windows, six-stage atmospheric lighting, larger bins for luggage storage and more sophisticated air filtration.
Boeing delivered the first 787 to Japan’s ANA airline in late September. ANA launched the 787 program in April 2004 with an order for 50 of the new jets, according to Boeing.
Japan Airlines recently announced nonstop flights between Tokyo and San Diego, beginning in December. The service is possible because of the long-range 787s.
The jet that will land at San Diego International Airport on March 13 was the third put into service for testing purposes. The tour started in early December in China, followed by a trip through Africa, with a third leg through the Middle East. Most of the stops are to show the aircraft to suppliers and employees.
This next leg begins Thursday in Toronto, followed by stops in Boston, Newark, Mexico City and Phoenix before landing in San Diego on March 13 to visit Goodrich and other suppliers. After San Diego, the jet will visit Long Beach and Salt Lake City before heading to South America.
“During the first three segments of the tour, we’ve had almost 25,000 visitors come through the airplane,” said Scott Fancher, vice president and general manager of the 787 program.
