A Hawaiian Airlines Airbus A330-200, registration N381HA performing flight HA-50 from Honolulu,HI to New York JFK,NY (USA), was enroute over the Pacific Ocean, when a flight attendant with more than 30 years of experience suffered what appeared to be a heart attack. Other flight attendants provided first aid, a doctor on board as well as a nurse on board joined the efforts and provided CPR for the remainder of the flight, the efforts were suspended shortly prior to landing. The flight crew diverted the aircraft to San Francisco, where the aircraft landed on runway 28L about 4.5 hours after departure from Honolulu. The flight attendant was pronounced dead upon arrival at the gate.

The remainder of the flight was cancelled. The passengers were rebooked onto other flights, a number booked flights to JFK on their own upon the promise to be re-imbursed by the airline.

Passengers reported enroute an announcement was made asking for medical assistance to come to the first class for a medical emergency. After landing they were kept on board of the aircraft for about 2 hours until the coroner arrived.
