Interjet has added Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to its international network. On 28 July the Mexican carrier began service from both Cancún (CUN) and Mexico City (MEX). Both routes will be flown four times weekly by the airline’s A320 fleet. Lauren Yaksich, Director, Global Hub Development, Long Range Airport Planning and Investment, Greater Toronto Airports Authority, said: “We are pleased to be welcoming Interjet to the Toronto Pearson family of carriers and know that the addition of their service will add great value for our passengers. The two routes, Mexico City and Cancún, will provide our passengers with a new option for travel to Mexico, be it for work or vacation.” The 2,602-kilometre route from Cancún is already served by four other carriers; WestJet (nine weekly flights), Air Canada and Sunwing Airlines (both with daily flights) and Air Transat (with five weekly flights). The 3,244-kilometre service from the Mexican capital is currently served by both Aeromexico and Air Canada with twice-daily flights. Interjet recently commenced services to Montreal from the same two Mexican airports. With these latest services the Mexican carrier now accounts for around 7% of the Canada-Mexico market, behind Aeromexico (29%), Air Canada (24%), WestJet (14%), Air Transat (13%) and Sunwing Airlines (12%).
