On May 23, 2018, flydubai flight FZ301 from Dubai, UAE to Kabul, Afghanistan, was flying in Iranian airspace when an air turn back was made to Dubai. According to the UAE aviation authorities and flydubai, there was an “unruly passenger” on board. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, landed back at Dubai at 02:10 UTC, one hour and forty minutes after departure.
The unruly passenger was taken off the flight and the remaining passengers boarded another Boeing 737-800 to continue their flight to Kabul.
Iranian media reported that the “unruly passenger” had used a knife in an attempt to enter the flight deck. The flight deck door was closed, so the passenger did not succeed. He was later subdued.
