Exclamation Avion de aeromexico se enfila a pista equivocada ksfo

Aeromexico flight 668 got the okay to land at SFO at around 11:40 Tuesday morning. Based on the recorded interaction between the pilot and air traffic control, everything seemed to be fine.

But as the plane was about a mile out, the controller spotted trouble. The FAA says Aeromexico 668 had lined up on the wrong runway.

Instead of 2-8 Right, the plane was heading to the runway next to it, 2-8 Left -- and on it was a Virgin America flight filled with passengers.

The FAA says the pilots were using a guidance system often used in poor weather to help with their approach.

The pilots will be interviewed as part of the investigation.


"The runways at San Francisco International are fairly unique because they're very close together," said ABC aviation expert John Nance. "That also means that visually, you can kind of get mixed up a little more easily than you could if the runways were a mile from the other one laterally."

This is the second close call at SFO in recent months. In July, an Air Canada flight mistook a crowded taxiway for 2-* Right. The plane flew as low as 59 feet off the ground before the pilot aborted the landing.

"All the flight operations inand out, it's not exactly outside the realm of expectation," said Nance.

As for Aeromexico, the airline has to respond to our request for comment.

Así como el incidente de Volaris en JFK ahora le tocó a Aeromexico, ni modo en cualquier lado puede pasar

Y hace un par de días, aterrizó un Costera en MMMX, sin autorización de torre, ya en tierra puso como excusa El Capitan, que nunca lo cambiaron de frecuencia...

We landed 5 minutes ahead of this Ameomexico flight and heard the ground controller give the crew a phone number to call for a 'pilot deviation' incident. Was wondering what all that was about until I saw it here.

Well, SFO was using 28L and 28R ILS approaches during that time of the day so it may well be that AMX had the 28L ILS programmed in the box and wasn't expecting 28R. Especially since they arrived on the SERFR2 arrival just like we did, which 90% of the time, will have you land on 28L as the SERFR2 links in with 28L ILS approach at waypoint MENLO. But rarely do you fly straight in to the approach at SFO since ATC will radar vector you all over the place, before you intercept the localizer for the ILS.

Complacency perhaps was to blame here and possibly not updating the box with the 28R ILS when it was assigned. That's my guess anyway.

Como bien mencionan a todos nos puede pasar aqui lo significativo es que siendo un a320 o un 737, pasa lo que quiere decir nuevamente el factor humano sigue siendo la contribucion mas grande para un incidente o accidente....
